Spotlight: Some Lesser-Known Resources

We're preparing our journal lists for next year's renewal, which gives us the chance first to simply go over the list of journals we subscribe and provide access to - as you can imagine, it's grown significantly in the last few years! - and take a look at how, and how often, those titles are being used.

While we do provide access to a number of high-impact journals that get a lot of use - Lancet, BMJ, JAMA, NEJM and AIM, to name a few - there are some very fascinating and useful resources out there that aren't as well known but are still worth exploring, and we'd like to take this opportunity to spotlight a few of those for you.  All of the following titles are available online via Treadwell's ejournal list.

FACT: Focus on Alternative and Complementary Therapies
Published by the Royal Pharmaceutical Society, this quarterly aims to publish "articles and key papers in all fields of CAM research."  If you're interested in evidence-based commentary and research on complementary and alternative therapies, this journal would be a good place to look for an overview of what's current in the field.

Health and Social Work
This is a professional journal published by the National Association of Social Workers; its purpose is to "improv[e] social work practice and expand knowledge in health care" through articles that address both policy and practice and which have relevance to readers in the physical and mental health sciences as well as social workers.

Joint Commission Publications
The Joint Commission is a non-profit organization that accredits over 19,000 health care organizations and programs in the U.S., including MGH.  Treadwell subscribes to a number of Joint Commission publications, including Joint Commission Benchmark, which is aimed at "the performance measurement/improvement professional who wants to keep up-to-date on the latest performance measurement and improvement trends and activities" - or anyone interested in what it means to be accredited.

Research in Nursing and Health
This journal publishes "a wide range of research and theory that will inform the practice of nursing and other health disciplines," geared toward NPs, medical educators, administrators, and other readers in the health sciences interested in in-depth research.

Scientific Studies of Reading
The Official Journal of the Society for the Scientific Study of Reading, this journal publishes a fascinating range of information about the study of reading, from discoveries about the neurology of word recognition to studies about the response to literature.

As always, if you have any questions about any of these resources, please get in touch with us here at Treadwell!
